TICKET TO READ TUTOR: Tutor in our instructor-led, tutor-supported classes throughout Kansas City. Classes provide research-based curriculum, student-centered instruction, and goal oriented outcomes. Ticket to Read classes are a 2 hour, twice a week for 12 week time commitment and require 9 hours of training prior to placement.
MATH TUTOR: Work with a small group (no more than 3) of students enrolled in one of our literacy programs to improve their math skills. Math sessions are student driven classes that take place weekly for 1.5 hours for 11 weeks during the Ticket to Read term.
DIGITAL VOLUNTEER: Help our students with digital life skills classes, where they learn the basics of computers such as operating a mouse, keyboarding, setting up an email, and internet safety.
COMPUTER LAB ATTENDANT: Sit in our computer lab and assist students on the computer with their individual projects and goals, including education and career-related activities.
LET’S READ TUTOR: Let’s Read empowers parents and caregivers to take an active role in the education of their children, while improving their own literacy skills. Volunteers will tutor in a themed, instructor led, hour long session weekly for 6 weeks. Because program participants will include children, Let’s Read tutors will be asked to submit a background check, which may come with a small associated cost.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH: Help represent Literacy KC at volunteer fairs, resource fairs, speaking engagements and other special events throughout the community.
STAFF\OFFICE SUPPORT: Help answer telephone and greet office visitors by staffing our reception desk, or help with other administrative projects as needed (mailings, data entry, etc.).
SPECIAL PROJECTS: These can include anything from assembling bookmarks as a handout to working on a committee to develop programming or increase student engagement.
SPECIAL EVENTS VOLUNTEER: Assist with special events, including the Spelling Bee, Literacy for All Luncheon, Trivia Night, and more.
