High School Equivalency Preparation Classes (HiSET)

Literacy KC’s Adult Basic Education & High School Equivalency program provides free, high-quality instruction so that no one is hindered by low literacy or a lack of education in pursuit of their civic, career, educational, and personal goals. Each class is led by a certified instructor who is supported by volunteer tutors.

In addition to in-person classes, Literacy KC students can access Burlington English and/or Reading Horizons to log additional hours and advance their education.

Adult Basic Education

Our Adult Basic Education classes help emerging learners acquire the fundamental skills necessary to sound out and break down words, build vocabulary, strengthen reading comprehension, and gain the confidence to write clear, error-free sentences. Students also define personal goals and make progress toward these goals with the guidance and assistance of our staff.

HiSET Preparation

Our High School Equivalency classes help students prepare to take the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET). These classes cover reading, language, science, math, and social sciences, all of which are subjects included in the HiSET. To take the test, Missouri residents must be 16 years or older.
