Workforce Development

Literacy KC’s Workforce Development programs equip individuals with the skills and industry certifications needed to succeed in the workplace and beyond. Through partnerships with local businesses and the community, we offer the following trainings and certifications designed to open doors to meaningful employment.

Students must be currently enrolled in a Literacy KC HiSET® or ELL class to be eligible for a workforce class. For questions about our workforce offerings, contact workforce@literacykc.org or 816-333-9332.

Students learn how to prepare, administer, and chart medications in long-term care facilities, home healthcare agencies, and private duty care settings.

Students learn basic nursing skills through classroom discussions, demonstrations and simulations, and presentations by healthcare professionals.

A 10-week course for aspiring entrepreneurs to develop and refine a business concept, taking it through each step of the business planning process.

Participants achieve a Food Handler Certificate, which is endorsed by the National Restaurant Association.

Participants achieve a Safety Certified Certificate in Class 1, 4, and 5 Forklifts.

Build the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as a substitute teacher or paraprofessional in today’s classrooms
