Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in joining Literacy KC’s amazing community of volunteers.

Literacy KC’s volunteers are part of the very fabric of our organization. From tutoring in HiSET or ELL classes and volunteering at our monthly Pop Up Pantry, to making the everyday at our offices go smoothly, volunteers add so much value to our programs.

Perhaps the most impactful way our volunteers contribute to our students’ success is through the community of mentorship, acceptance, celebration, and encouragement they help build, and in which our students thrive.

Thank you for your interest in changing lives beyond words. Literacy KC would not be able to do what we do without the dedication and passion of volunteers like you!

OPEN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Food Pick Up/Pantry Maintenance: Pick up food and pantry items from Harvesters, Pete’s Garden, and Kanbe’s Market to help maintain the Literacy KC student pantry.
Front Desk Coverage: Cover the front desk at our Park 39 location while our team is in a monthly staff meeting.
Pop Up Pantry: Join the workforce team at our monthly Pop Up Pantry at 39th and Warwick. Held on the first Monday of the month, the pantry is open from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
Holiday Store: Volunteers will support students and their families by helping us prepare warm coats and blankets for distribution during the holiday season.
Books, Brains, Bubbles, and Brews Event: Literacy KC’s annual Trivia Night will be held on January 22, 2026, from 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM. Volunteers will help with greeting, check-in, scoring, etc.
